BackgroundThe world’s appetite for data storage continues to grow at a record pace – that’s not news! What is news are the engines behind the growth and the increasing complexities in users’ needs for applications of their data. Data is being stored locally, in the datacenter and in the cloud. This diversity is presenting users with unprecedented choices for their storage needs.

The Storage Products Association (SPA) helps storage manufacturers and users better understand and support current and future needs, including how the growing mix of storage technologies can meet all storage needs. SPA’s mission is to:

  • promote the use and understanding of data storage technologies, with a focus on (i) hard disk drive (“HDD”), solid state drive (“SSD”), and solid-state hybrid drive (“SSHD”) technologies, and (ii) other non-volatile memory subsystems;
  • promote the growth and development of the market for data storage technologies, with a focus on HDD, SSD, and SSHD technologies, and other non-volatile memory subsystems;
  • provide a focal point for communicating storage technology benefits to the market, including education, training and market information relating to (i) HDD, SSD, and SSHD systems and technologies, and (ii) other non-volatile memory subsystems; and
  • promote and support relevant standards for HDD, SSD, SSHD, and other non-volatile memory subsystems for the benefit of consumers.
